UCSB Fall Quarter Update

The Fall quarter here at UCSB is nearly halfway done. This is the 5th week in the quarter out of 10 total weeks. So far my classes are going fairly well. I am taking the history of Chicano Studies and Culture, Accounting Information Systems (AIS) and Financial Data and Statement Analysis. My AIS course focuses on the structure of good business systems and applications to create an environment of maximum effectiveness and efficiency. My midterms for all three courses are next Monday and Tuesdays. Three midterms in a one and a half day period. Not too excited about that, but it must be done.

My Financial Data and Statement Analysis class is going fairly well. My final project for that course will be comparing three major airline corporations and its subsidiary companies: American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlines although Delta and United Airlines are bankrupted, American Airlines will be the likely corporation to invest in if only those three were an option to invest money on, but I would look to other airlines for better investing opportunities. This class is most enjoyable. This course is actually something I can use and apply when I want to invest some day. I have a nice line-up of companies I have researched and found about half a dozen prime companies to invest in to get your money’s worth. But that will have to wait until I graduate and get a job. About time, who knows what will happen to those companies. I will most likely have to find other companies to invest in.

My Chicano Studies course is unusual. The professor’s way of teaching is different compared to the “lecture” style of teaching, but the professor is very emotional about the subject and that makes the course interesting. The professor is an activist for Chicano rights and it makes me sometimes want to go out and protest. So he is an inspirational professor and I am learning a lot. But his midterm seems unpredictable. With him talking about so many things, it will be difficult to pin point the main content on which he is going to test in. So from a student perspective, this course is difficult in what is going to be test. Although I have learned a lot, most of it are general things about topics here and there, and not so much one or two specific things. But as someone who enjoys learning, this class is fun and easy to learn. Sometimes it can be difficult to remember all the dates, names, and places.

I will sign up for my classes next quarter in a few days. So far I will be taking Intermediate Financial Accounting, Income Taxation, Intermediate Microeconomics, and Managerial Accounting. Hopefully there will be enough sign-up spots for the class. Well, back to studying… :)
